The combination of precision automated equipment and experienced fabricators we utilize at Metal Works of High Point, Inc.; allow us to provide premium quality parts and assemblies to customers in an array of industries. The support chassis shown here is manufactured for an OEM customer in the appliance industry. The chassis is fabricated from a length of MC structural channel and mild sheet steel in 7 gauge and 10 gauge thicknesses. After being laser cut or cut to length on a CNC saw, the pieces are milled and formed according to customer specifications. The final 28.965″ long assembly features 90° offset bend angles and 90° welds, resulting in a total width of 3.25″ and height of 4.25″. After fabrication, the chassis is powder coated matte black using a 3 mil thick polyurethane powder formula.
This customer contacted us because they had been experiencing ongoing quality issues with regards to their previous supplier’s inability to hold the tight tolerances required for this assembly. To alleviate the tolerance issues that the customer had been experiencing, our engineering and in-house tooling department developed custom fixtures that allowed us to hold bend angles to within ±0.5° and hole locations within ±0.015″ after welding. The first parts we produced were subjected to a PPAP approval process and a capability study using a trial run of 30 pieces. Production parts are gauged for conformance to customer specifications using machined check fixtures that make part verification quick and efficient. We produce approximately 150 of these support chassis per month with an average lead time of 20 working days per order.
